Tangram Insurance Services and ProSight Specialty Insurance have created the Community Giving Fund to help support deserving non-profit organizations. One of the recent recipients of a grant from the fund is the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center (SFCAPC) which has worked for almost 40 years to prevent child abuse. The organization traces its roots back to the founding of the San Francisco Child Abuse Council in 1973 by the Chief of Pediatrics at San Francisco General Hospital; in 1998 the council merged with the TALK Line Family Support Center to create the SFCAPC.

Business Professional Insurance Associates, which has worked with the center for many years, nominated the organization for a grant, and in late 2012 SFCAPC received $2500 from the Community Giving Fund. According to Jenny Pearlman, the organization’s Community Education and Communications Manager, the grant will support the programs and services that help prevent child abuse and reduce its impact. “Our focus is on keeping children safe; our programs build a circle of protection around children through family support, community education and advocacy, and partnerships with public and private agencies that work with vulnerable children. We empower children to speak up, enable parents to be better caregivers, and create a community to protect all children ”

A new, exciting initiative of SFCAPC is the Children’s Advocacy Center, which will improve the child abuse response system by providing comprehensive, coordinated, and intensive services to child victims. “This grant is helping us make a big difference for children and their families,” Pearlman says. “It’s something that is really helping us fulfill our mission.”
